4 Winter Hairstyles for Black Women

It is safe to say that every person needs to switch their wardrobe between seasons. But, do you also switch your hairstyles?

Black hair is texturally different and has to be treated differently than most. By learning how to style and maintain healthy hair, your hair can survive the winter months this year.

The weather can shape the way your hair feels, looks, and decides whether your hair will remain healthy during the cold brittle Winter.

1. Classic Box Braids You cannot go wrong with this classic go-to protective style. This hairstyle has been around for centuries and never gets old.

Although they have been around before the 1993 classic Poetic Justice, Janet Jackson inspired a world of girls to look just like her.

Box braids are braided with your natural hair and beauty salon braiding hair. Putting your hair in braids can give you a few months free of chemical damage, heat damage, and breakage.

2. Natural Hair Extensions This style can be transitioned into anything you want. With simple clip-ins, you can create a fuller natural hairstyle, a top bun, or a long slick pony.

Clip-ins are easy to install and remove to your liking. These are great for girls who have short hair or thin hair that want to try something new but not permanent.

Clip-ins come in an array of hair textures as well, so if you want to switch it up, the option is always there. However; clip-ins, for a long period of time without removal, could potentially damage the hair with breakage. This look is specifically for special outings or a week or two of change.

3. Wigs are the New Wave Wigs are back for good it seems. Perfect for any girl feeling insecure about her hair, or any girl that doesn’t want to style their natural hair daily.

Wigs can come in curly, braided, straight, or even a different texture all together. Just slide one on, lay your edges, or don’t, then leave.

They are perfect for any college student that rolls out of bed before a final. Wigs are also cost effective by being cheaper with the same “wear time."

4. Crochet Styles Crotchet styles may be the best versatile style there is. Braid your hair into cornrows and have a hairstylist or yourself buy braiding hair to weave into your cornrows.

Cut it, curl it, straighten it, whatever you want. This look protects your natural hair the most, as there is none of your real hair showing, meaning that your natural hair oils are protected as well as reducing breakage while braided under.

While there are many more hairstyles to choose from, remember the most important things: your hair must stay hydrated, protected, and away from straighteners, especially during the Winter.
