Wanna Be on Top?
Our prayers have been answered! The producers of America’s Next Top Model, which was previously deemed cancelled in October, announced in February that the show would rise from the ashes – but with a few changes. Instead of airing on The CW, ANTM will air on VH1, so take note of any cable service arrangements that need to be made. Perhaps more importantly, Tyra Banks, the heart and soul of ANTM and the host for 22 seasons, will no longer be the host of ANTM. Yes, you read that correctly. Tyra will still be an executive producer, but without her as the face of the show, who will teach us to smize or booty tooch or model H2T? I mean come on, Tyra. We were rooting for you; we were ALL rooting for you to stay the host. Nostalgia aside, important decisions need to be made. Let’s be fiercely real, no one can replace Tyra, but nonetheless, here are my top choices for the next ANTM host.
1. Chrissy Teigan
I’ll just flat out say it: I would put money on Chrissy Teigan being the next host of America’s Next Top Model. Not only is she one of Tyra’s closest friends, but she’s a model herself AND a popular TV personality. She’s even been on ANTM before! The only problem is that she will soon have a baby so she’ll most likely want to spend lots of time with him or her. But what’s a newborn baby compared to a born again ANTM?
2. Miss J. Alexander
Now this would be fun. If you don’t already know and love Miss J, boy are you missing out on some of the greatest one-liners of all time. ANTM judge, drag queen, and “runway diva coach extraordinaire,” Miss J would certainly not disappoint as host, but I’ll be glad just to see her back in action.
3. Khloe Kardashian
As much as I don’t want to see the Kardashians take over yet another platform, I have to admit that Khloe would be a fabulous ANTM host. Outspoken, hilarious, and non-traditional in all senses of the word, she’d be perfect for the America’s Next Top Model
revamp.
4. Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton
Yeah, this may be reaching a little far. But just imagine the stars of The Simple Life reunited and ready to bring back the glory of the 2000s. I can see it now: all pink everything, all model makeovers being a subtle change to peroxide blonde, and the judging panel offering a continuous melody of “That’s hot.”
5. Nene Leakes
If major roles on Real Housewives of Atlanta, Glee, Celebrity Apprentice, and Fashion Police aren’t enough to host a reboot of America’s Next Top Model, I might as well give up on my dreams now. Nene’s got the sass, spunk, and star power to be a great replacement for Tyra. There might even be a few more glorious blow-ups during panel!
6. Amy Schumer
If there’s anyone who can bring ANTM into a new era, it’s Amy Schumer. Bold, brash, and brutally honest, Amy’s strong and hilarious approach to feminism and body image would certainly bring an interesting twist to America’s Next Top Model.
7. And finally, ME!
Who says I wouldn’t make a good ANTM host? I’ve only watched every season at least three times! As someone who used to live by the motto WWTD (what would Tyra do), I would gladly forego my last few years of college to take the reigns of ANTM. Someone’s got to do it, right? Watch out, world. I’m ready for my close up.
