Fashion Trends for Party Season 2016
Party season has (finally) arrived, and it’s time to dress the part. With all the Christmas parties and New Year’s celebrations coming up, you need to know what to wear…and what to avoid. Let KRNL Fashion be your guide:
1. The number one must-have for party season is always metallics, but even more so in 2016. Liquid-looking gold, silver, copper and chrome have taken over street (and party) style. Not only are metallics total show-stoppers, but they’ll look fabulous in your post-party Instagrams. After all, lighting is everything, and metallics can turn you into a star.
2. If liquid metal isn’t your thing, sequin ensembles are equal alternatives. Embellished or metallic knitwear will keep you warm AND set you apart from the ugly sweater crowd.
3. To add some sparkle to your beauty look, try glitter nails, eyeshadow or lipstick (thank you Pat McGrath!). Don’t forget to generously apply highlight, too. With all the party lights and celebrations, this is perhaps the best time ever to get your glow on.
4. Even if it’s cold, skin is still in. Sheer fabrics, cutout patterns and slip dresses are still sure ways to make a fashion statement. Exposed undergarments – like bralettes or a peek of underwear – are celebrity favorites. Just don’t try it at grandma’s house.
5. Don't be a clone. You might be tempted to wear thigh high boots because that’s the trend on social media. But this trend can very easily turn tacky. If too many people in your squad are wearing them, it just looks unoriginal – like a pack of Ariana Grande’s. Opt instead for a simple strappy heel or an ankle boot with a block heel.
6. Channel different eras as we rake in a new one. Whether you’re inspired by 20s flapper girls, 80s divas or 90s club kids, there’s no better time to go all out. Party like Gatsby in playful fringe. Go bold in 80s animal prints or shiny latex. Or channel Kate Moss and Naomi Cambell in barely-there silk, sheer or velvet.
7. Choose color carefully. If you’re going for holiday colors, stick to one. Monochrome red, green OR white will always look better than all of them together. Go for darker colors, too. Wear a deep burgundy instead of red, forest green instead of boring, normal green, and midnight blue instead of primary blue (UK blue is the only exception).
8. Don’t be afraid to stand out. Cocktail dresses are great, but you can also be bold in styles that normal party-goers might be intimidated by. Try a silky slip dress with a bomber jacket or even ripped jeans with an embellished top. Be inspired by celebs, past and present, but always remember to add your own flare.
