3 Tips to Get Along with your Roomies

Living in an apartment filled with three roommates during your freshman year of college isn't easy. While everyone else has the luxury of living in neatly-kept dorms with easy and quick access to class, you have to walk every morning for 15 minutes to get to your first 9 AM.

However, it all can be worth it if you find the right roommates to live with.

Here are three tips that I have found helpful while living with roommates, whether in a dorm or an apartment.

Tip number one: Be nice.

Did you find a hair in your sink that wasn't yours? Or maybe you woke up to dirty dishes left out. Before you freak out on your roomie, take a breath. Maybe they really had to study for that psychology exam that they've been stressing over for months. Instead of getting mad, try asking if they need your help. While you are helping to make their life easier, you're also helping yourself from going crazy on your roomie in the process.

Tip number two: Have girl's nights.

Bonding with your roomies is the key to a successful roomie-relationship. Without nights filled with Netflix and a Cookout tray, are you and your roomies even friends? Try something spontaneous one night. Try going bowling one evening. Maybe try asking them to come along with you while you go get that top you NEED from Free People. It will make them feel wanted and you will be happy to have a buddy come along with you.

Tip number three: Be yourself.

This is probably the best tip you will ever receive in life. Everyone has heard it a thousand and one times. It may be a cliche, but cliches are always a thing for a reason. Being yourself around your roomies allows you to be more confident in yourself. Always be kind to yourself and your roommates, no matter what struggles you may come across.
