Decorating Your Non-Festive Apartment
The holiday season is upon us! Depending on your style, decorating for the holidays is either a priority or a bother. These little steps will teach you how to be festive without the extra hassle.
Wreaths
Wreaths are said to symbolize eternal life with its circular shape in Christianity. In Ancient Rome, it is said to represent victory. And both are usually hung on the main door to your house or apartment. However, you choose to celebrate, wreaths are one of the most common décor pieces for any holiday.
For Halloween, instead of using green twigs and leaves; use a mixture of ribbon, spider web, scary pumpkins, bats, or even white ghosts. Of course, not forgetting the traditional colors: orange, black, purple, red, and a hint of green monster slime, or completely change the look of your wreath by using the shape of your favorite letter. If your last name is Davis, create a “D” instead of a circle.
For Thanksgiving, it is easy to pair fake fall leaves with tiny pumpkins or turkeys of your choice. If you have a modern style, pair a steel wreath with metal ornaments. A wreath can be creative. Instead of using traditional greens and orange, create a circular wreath out of small items like Tiffany boxes or cardboard mini houses.
Whatever winter holiday you decide to celebrate —Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or Ramadan— wreaths are universal. By using darker winter colors like brown, red, blues, green, or even gold you can personalize it to your needs. If this is too simple, wrap the wreath in lights! If you are not a fan of any part of nature, attach your wreath with an arrangement of colorful bulb ornaments.
Table Centerpieces
Table centerpieces are also an easy way to dress up your space without going overboard. Table pieces are focal points in any home. Let friends and family gather around your table with drinks and finger food during your holiday parties.
By including a tray full of festive mementos of the holidays like mistletoe, fall leaves, snow globes, and even skulls, you can add a touch of festive to your non-festive home. Create a pallet of wood, glass, or plastic trays. Then add tall candle holders and old glass bottles to place sand or glitter into creates dimension and attention. Inside the array of bottles, you can place tiny ornaments, statues, or flowers inside.
If you want something smaller, lay out a long plate with artificial fruit, leaves, and fake snow. Pair this with a few candles of your choice. Another festive way to incorporate artificial snow is by placing a wooden bowl, foam, pinecones and artificial pine sticks in the center of the dining table.
I hope these two tips will teach you that decorating does not have to be a challenge. Instead of decking your house with millions of lights and inflatable yard decorations, small touches can bring your space up to par with the season change.
