PEDAL FASTER!!! Bike Shorts are Riding into Style!
Summer’s hottest celebrity trend has made its way on to the campus style scene.
Walk in the door, and welcome to a dimly lit room, filled with numerous identical looking bikes, an instructor in the front peppily cheering you along, and you’re in the zone, pedaling as fast as you possibly can. This is what a modern-day cycling class is like, whether you prefer CycleYou or Cycle Bar, they all have a similar feel.
The only thing harder to discern from where you choose to workout is what you’re going to wear for your sweat session. Activewear is on the forefront of fashion these days, every collection that comes down the runway showcases a sporty piece here and there. Your own everyday fashion consists almost solely of two or three activewear staples. At the University of Kentucky, it is considered strange to see a fellow classmate walking to class in anything but leggings and a t-shirt. Since the start of the school year, I’ve seen a subtle switch in on-campus sporty fashion. It’s about being casual, but trendy.
After a summer filled with bike shorts on celebrity after celebrity, the cycling staple has officially infiltrated everyday life. I’ve seen countless classmates rocking this revamped trendy look with graphic t-shirts, tank tops, cute hoodies, and more. It even inspired me to try out Kim K’s newly famous bike short trend and rock a pair to class. I can honestly say I’ve become a follower! They have all the comfort of leggings but keep you cool in this blistering Kentucky October heat. My style felt completely elevated by incorporating such a simple clothing alteration. This trend takes almost no effort for you to be deemed fashionable or trendy by your peers.
I felt like Bella Hadid walking the streets of Paris on her way to fashion week’s next show. All I had to do was pull out my old Target bike shorts and boom! Fashion.
