Dating in the Age of Social Media
Is your relationship social media ready? That sounds like a crazy question to ask, but it’s valid if you’re dating during this social media craze. With apps like SnapChat, Instagram and Twitter, it’s easy to want to share our personal lives on the internet. Social media can be used for networking, keeping in contact with friends/family and for the entertainment of course! With a couple of clicks on your smartphone, you can share exactly what's going on in your life. This can be a good thing, but it can also be a recipe for disaster. Especially when it comes to relationships.
We all know a person who’s been all “boo’d up” on social media and then one day you look at their page and all of their pictures with their boo are deleted. I’ve definitely been that person! I remember being so conflicted because I didn’t want to delete the memories, but I also didn’t want to hold on to something that didn’t exist anymore. Looking back on it, I really wish I would’ve just waited a little longer to post pictures of my guy on social media or just not posted any altogether. It’s easy to want to share moments in your life on social media, but that’s exactly what they are... moments. They can sometimes be fleeting.
My advice is to keep it cute. You’re probably wondering what that means. Well, it means to take your time developing your relationship with your new boo and keep your relationship private. That doesn’t mean keep it secret. That just means don’t tweet all of your relationship problems, don’t play the follow/unfollow game on social media during your arguments and don’t post a bunch of pictures saying “Love of my life<3” before you know that you’re actually in love. Trust me, we ALL notice these things! You may think you’re being discreet, but we all see it, honey. If you’re really pressed to post pictures with your new special someone, then just post something like the picture I have up. This is my boo and I'm keeping my relationship cute and between the two of us until further notice. Good luck loves!
