2019 Grammy Predictions

It's officially award season and, we couldn't be more excited! The 61st annual Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 10, 2019. But before the awards come the nominations which are, announced on Dec. 5 and we have some predictions! This year things are a little different rather than five nominees in each category there will be eight. This change is due to many albums not getting the recognition they deserve because of the small selection.

There has been some controversy since the last Grammy Awards. Lack of diversity is one of them. Many great artists are nominated but aren't winning the awards they highly deserve. Kendrick Lamar's 'DAMN' and Beyonce's 'Lemonade' being among them. But that's not the only thing. Women are few and far between in categories. Last year Lorde being the only woman nominated for 'Album of the year.' Grammy president Neil Portnow went on to say that women needed to "Step Up" to fix the inequality in the music industry. He did backtrack his statement but later stepped down as president.

This Grammy season we can expect to see lots of new faces. But we are still hoping for the redemption of Beyonce and Jay-Z for their collab album 'EVERYTHING IS LOVE.' Here are seven albums that I believe have a chance at being nominated for Album of the Year.

Golden Hour - Kacey Musgraves

The Academy likes to save one spot for a country album, and this is the best option. One of my favorite albums of 2018 and 2019 could be the year of Kacey Musgraves.

Reputation - Taylor Swift

One of the Academy's favorite artist, but sadly not her most successful album. I highly predict a spot is saved for Reputation.

Invasion of Privacy - Cardi B

Though she can't be nominated for Best New Artist since already being nominated for "Bodak Yellow," "Invasion of Privacy" seems to be a good contender for the big award of the night.

Scorpion - Drake

No one can ignore the commercial success of this album and the Academy might take notice of that.

Dirty Computer - Janelle Monae

A diamond in the rough and hopefully a contender for Album of the Year.

Sweetener - Ariana Grande

A well-deserved nomination for Ariana who didn't give up and showed that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It could be a stretch but a very deserving nomination.

Everything Is Love - The Carters

Beyonce and Jay have been snubbed a couple of times in the past for Album of the Year. This album could end that losing streak for the admirable couple.

Other honorable mentions to watch out for:

Childish Gambino - This Is America

Dua Lipa - Best New Artist

Billie Eilish - Best New Artist

A Star Is Born soundtrack

Black Panther soundtrack

Let me know what awards you think will take home the biggest award of the night!
