Expressing interest in an NPHC sorority
When thinking about college, most people first think of Greek life. As a freshman, we are greeted with the sight of many girls in white buzzing with excitement about rushing the best sorority.
But, if you’re like me, you had another kind of Greek life in mind.
My sophomore year, I became a member of a Divine Nine sorority, which is a sorority that is a part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Currently, as a senior, I have an executive position.
Organizations a part of the NPHC aren’t often talked about and can be shrouded in a bit of mystery, but I do have a few tips on the best ways to show you're interested in a D9 sorority:
Tip #1: Research
Stop! Before you do anything, please research. Some people realize after researching the organization they thought they wanted to be in that their values don’t match up like they once thought. This way you can gather information and make sure you want to join that particular sorority.
Tip #2: Events! Events! Events!
All of the organizations in the NPHC have events. For non-members of the organization, this is a way for you to show your face to members and become more familiar (I say “more” familiar because you already did your research right?) with what that particular organization is all about.
Tip #3: Discretion
Wanting to be a member of a D9 is a personal decision so why share that with the world? It’s your business. This decision involves a lot of research and soul searching to make sure you make the right choice. Also, a lack of discretion can jeopardize your acceptance into your dream organization so don’t let that be the reason you are not accepted. It is very important to be seen but not heard.
Good luck to all interested in joining a Divine Nine Sorority.
XOXO a DIVINE 9 girl
