Fashion Week in College

Calling all fashionistas, fashion bloggers, future fashion designers and editors, fashion ANYTHING. Prepare your social media feed: Fashion Week is coming. The week (or month) that determines what everyone will be wearing come spring and summer will soon be upon us, so while we’re still in little old Lexington listening to lectures and writing papers, at least we can live vicariously through the Internet. Here’s how:

Livestreams – With online livestreams of Fashion Week shows, there’s no more fashion FOMO. It’s certainly not the same as sitting front row between Anna Wintour and Rihanna, but at least you’ll see the collection at the same time as them! Links to these livestreams are often found on the designers’ social media, so you can watch them on your phone or laptop, which is convenient since many of the shows may take place during a class. With the mute button and the proper positioning of your phone or laptop, you can listen to a lecture and see the latest Versace collection at the same time!

Television coverage - Plenty of news stations may cover Fashion Week a little bit, but none will be as thorough (or enthusiastic) as E! News. They've planned a whole week of coverage for the NYC shows, and there will no doubt be various Fashion Police episodes to celebrate the occasion. Coverage starts Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7pm.

Snapchat – Many major players in the fashion industry like magazines, fashion bloggers or the designers, themselves, will share moments from the shows on Snapchat (some models even take selfies walking down the runway). These moments will most likely be behind the scenes or favorite looks from the collection, so you most likely won’t see the whole show. Snapchat does, however, offer a much more lighthearted perspective of Fashion Week that makes it seem more accessible and less serious.

Social Media feeds – If you follow fashion houses, media outlets or fashion bloggers, you’re Instagram feed will most likely be filled with photos from the shows and the major showpieces. This is where you’ll get the HD pictures of what celebrities were there and which looks stole the show. Prepare your Pinterest board for some major inspiration because these shows are seriously breathtaking.

KRNL Fashion – Of course, you can count on KRNL to get you the basics of everything Fashion Week. Whether it’s our favorite looks of the week or what’s the buzz at the shows, you can stay in the know either on our website or through our social media.
