London Fashion Week: The Review
While London Fashion Week was considerably shorter than the others of the main four fashion week events, it nonetheless served up some posh style. The London shows were certainly more modest than those of NYFW, with the average amount of exposed skin being significantly lower in London. Even though less skin was shown, however, sheer was still a favorite among shows like Topshop Unique and Teatum Jones. The difference between sheer at LFW and NYFW? Undergarments.
Keeping with the modesty trend, shows from Erdem and Bora Aksu featured intricate lace and ruffles in their countryside-inspired dresses. Some clothes even resembled doll dresses like those at Ryan Lo and Molly Goddard.
Along with prairie dresses and doll-like clothes, appliques and embroidery were huge favorites by designers, from feathers and metal pieces at Huishan Zhang to bright graphics at Peter Pilotto. Charlotte Olympia even debuted a series of fruit-inspired costumes – literally, there were models in banana costumes.
A wide range of color was also evident at London Fashion Week. Bright yellows and reds were featured at the House of Holland and PPQ shows, while Mulberry opted for their signature muted colors like navy and burgundy.
Staying true to edgier London fashion, designers like Ashley Williams and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi incorporated a rocker flare with fringe and distressed fabric. The show by Versus Versace, headlined by Bella Hadid, had an obvious military inspiration, but certainly with a dash of both rocker and athletic edge.
And like always, the famous Miranda Priestley mantra (Florals, for spring? Groundbreaking.) held true because the spring shows certainly loved their nature inspiration. Who could blame them?
