New York Fashion Week A/W 2017

As the first fashion event since the Presidential Inauguration, and really since the election, NYFW was bound to get political. Fashion houses like Public School and Prabal Gurung were blatant about their political expression, while others were more subtle in their approach. Jeremy Scott, on the other hand, mixed religious imagery with Hollywood iconography, creating powerful visual statements that are his trademark.

Celebrities also flocked (as usual) to shows like Yeezy Season 5 and Philipp Plein. Just a few in attendance were the Kardashian clan, Selena Gomez, and Paris Hilton. Some controversy ensued over Tiffany Trump sitting front row at Philipp Plein as rumors swirled that attendees refused to sit next to her. Melania was also caught up in some drama when a reporter suggested that the First Lady was a former hooker. However, some arguably unlikely supporters came forward to stand up for the Trump women. Whoopi Goldberg claimed that she would sit next to Tiffany, as she knows how it feels to be excluded, and Emily Ratajtowski enlisted the help of social media to stand up for Melania and the sexual rights of all women, whether she was a hooker or not.

Despite the drama that always accompanies fashion and celebrity, NYFW served up some killer looks that we will definitely see as fashion influences during the next six months.
