Trends to Try this Keeneland Season

Keeneland season is finally here!! With the kickoff of Keeneland Scholarship Day, embrace the season of change and try something new with your style. Sure, those Lilly Pulitzer dresses are great, but if you want to look like a true individual (and have a popping Instagram), take these trends for a spin:

Color

Pastel pink might be the most popular dress color at Keeneland – as always – but it’s an actual worldwide trend this season, called Millennial Pink (because, well, millennials love it). The color itself is a mix of blush, coral, and bubblegum.

Go for bold red or eye-popping yellow this spring. If you want to stand out against all the pink, why not go bold?

Monochrome looks are a favorite among street style stars, and styled properly, a monochrome look is sure to be a social media hit.

All white looks are the essence of spring. Light, airy, and ultra-chic. Just make sure you don’t spill ketchup!

Fabric

Gingham has become popular among celebs like Kendall Jenner and Rita Ora. It’s the perfect mix of professional and playful.

Velvet was huge in the fall, but it’s still a worthy trend for spring. For this season, pair a bright yellow velvet skirt with a simple top for a look that will take you from Keeneland to Paris Fashion Week.

Metallic fabric is another growing trend, especially among skirts. With the sun and wind, the reflection off of these fabrics is truly a sight to see, or at least show off on Instagram.

Styling

Go for a dress or top with a statement sleeve. Whether you go bold or subtle, statement sleeves (like bell sleeves and ruffles) add just the right touch of intrigue to an outfit.

Wear dresses under sweaters. Hey, sometimes it gets drafty in Keeneland, especially on colder days. Take notes from Jennifer Lawrence, who wore a Dior sweater over her dress for a red carpet event. Of course, your look for Keeneland won’t be as ~fancy~ but it’s still worth at try.

Accessorize boldly. Some ideas include: statement purses, colorful and reflective sunglasses, large hoop earrings (or bold earrings in general) and flowers in your hair (no, not flower crowns – actual flowers).

Wear sneakers. Fashion sneakers are in their heyday. Whether with jeans or a formal dress, fashionistas everywhere are opting for comfort – so why not you? Do we really want to walk and stand all day at Keeneland in heels? Come on, it’s 2017.
